Singing for Dancers

Unite Your Vocal and Physical Artistry

Welcome to the dedicated page for dancers looking to enhance their singing skills. At Moving Vocals Performance Studio, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that dancers face when stepping into the world of singing. Whether you have some experience with singing but want a teacher who truly understands dancers, or you're brand new to singing and nervous to get started, you're in the right place.

Thanks to many years of dance training and performance experience in musical theatre, I believe I am uniquely equipped to teach vocal technique to dancers. I incorporate dance vocabulary and techniques into lessons and encourage students to use their bodies instead of standing on the dreaded and paralyzing “imaginary X." We talk extensively about breathwork, recognizing that cues surrounding breath can often feel contradictory between dance and voice pedagogies. My goal is to help you learn how to use your breath efficiently yet realistically for the demanding choreography you often have to perform while singing on the job.

It does us no good to only train in optimal scenarios when the demands placed on performers are anything but optimal in today's industry. We must train for the jobs we want, and I am passionate about providing my students with that training. I want you to be prepared for any job you book and able to stay healthy while living your dreams.

…Sometimes I’m a little corny. You’ll get used to it - I promise. :)

  • "Kayleen brings an expertise and positive approach to the craft of singing. In a short time, she has brought me to a level of quality and confidence in my voice, vocal technique, and repertoire. If you are a singer, actor or dancer who strives to be a multi-threat performer, I highly recommend this seasoned pro!"

  • "I recently had the privilege to take a VocalMotion class. To say I am obsessed is a true understatement. No one is speaking about breath management when it comes to being a triple threat. It’s confusing and very much overlooked. Having the resources to work on the trifecta in one room is a true blessing."

    Nick Raynor
(Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof Off-Broadway, A Chorus Line National Tour)

  • "Once I made the move to New York City to pursue my dreams as a dancer, I quickly realized I also needed to act and be able to sing. I made it a goal of mine to find a voice coach that encouraged and pushed me. When I found Kayleen, I immediately knew she was that person. With lots of hard work and her guidance, I feel so much more confident in my singing."

    Katie Armstrong
    (Professional Dancer)

  • "As someone who has always struggled with being able to get the proper breath support to sing while moving my body, lessons with Kayleen this class helped me to understand not only that it is doable to sing and dance at the same time, but how to have the confidence and proper technique to do such a thing. I couldn’t be more grateful!"
