The main focus of Voice Lessons is to build a solid technical foundation. Each lesson begins with customized warm-ups tailored to the individual singer and personalized exercises created to help each singer reach their vocal goals. Exercises can cover everything from breath control and phrasing to vocal registration and vowel modification to stylistic nuances. But it’s not just about the notes; MVPS understands the importance of creating an emotional connection with your music no matter the style, so every performance resonates. In Singing for Dancers, we cover all the same things we do in regular voice lessons, but we do it through the lens of dance. You already have a solid performance skill set as a dancer, so don’t check those skills at the door when you walk into a voice lesson! In Singing for Dancers, we use dance vocabulary and technique that you already know and are comfortable with in order to find ease and confidence in your vocal skills. So often it seems that dance and vocal pedagogy are in conflict with one another, but MVPS knows that the performance industry requires singing and dancing at the same time and that you need the technique to deliver that combination of skill sets safely and efficiently. If you are a “dancer-first” who needs to work on their singing skills but are nervous to get started, breathe a sigh of relief. You’re in the right place!
